SCIRTx is an innovative and simple way to network control television screens that are not equipped with an RS232 interface. 

SCIRTx bridges the gap between set-top boxes/digital media players (the controlling device) and TVs without RS232 ports. SCIRTx provides integration transparency by converting the RS232 command sequence exiting the controlling device into an IR transmission. This allows remote network control of screen displays for lower cost TV sets vs. high cost RS232 capable monitors. This results in a significant savings where a large number of TV screens are deployed in areas such as sports arenas, convention centers, shopping malls, etc.

SCIRTx supports IR communications for a wide variety of devices and is highly adaptable for any device on the market. Currently, tested/deployed units include (but are not limited to):

SCIRTx supports single command execution, as well as “stacked” commands (macros) and command state storage. A simple “SCIRTx Recorder” is available for learning codes from an unlimited amount of devices. JAFA Technologies Integration Services provides a full turnkey solution, including documented serial command strings to support a customer-provided remote control. Custom command sequence support is available upon request. 
 

Installation

To install SCIRTx, simply plug it into USB (used only for 5V power) and RS232 connector of the controlling device, securing the SCIRTx unit with the captive screws.  Place IR dongle onto TV IR receiver. Once proper positioning/alignment is verified, peel tape backing for semi-permanent attachment.  SCIRTx does not interfere with or block incoming signals from standard TV remote when properly installed.
